Fostering Saves Lives

Posted on January 17, 2012

sweet_1087_5.jpgFoster homes are the limiting factor in American Greyhound's operations.  The number of active foster homes dictates the number of rescued hounds we have available for adoption at any given time.  American greyhound currently operates no kennel facilities and relies on foster homes to house our adoptable hounds.

"The Billy"

Posted on January 9, 2012

American Greyhound had received a handsome dog named Candles Sheep in March of 2009 and in early April 2009, we were contacted about taking his litter mate, Candles Billy because Billy had had a seizure during a race.  When we got Billy, he looked exactly like Sheep, same tall socks, same chest markings, everything the same except Billy was fawn and Sheep was black and these brothers were not yet even 2 years old.

2011 Winning Hearts Not Races Charity Auction

Posted on November 18, 2011

lastframe.jpgOur 2nd Annual Winning Hearts Not Races Auction raised over $49,000. We had over 250 guests this year and over 400 auctions items.

Thank You to our guest, individuals and businesses that donated items, and our Auction Committee for organizing such an amazing event.

What a difference a year makes. The hauler purchased from proceeds from last years auction has transported over a 100 dogs to rescue groups in the Midwest.

The fancy-pants fundraiser attracted nearly 250 guests who dug deeply into their wallets and purses for a whopping $46,000 in just a few hours.

The event offered a silent auction, live auction, champagne fountain, wonderful dinner and an open bar this past Saturday night at Avalon Manor in Hobart. In other words, it was a top-shelf affair that was both hoity and toity, in a good way.

Second Foster

My husband and I are thrilled to be taking in our second foster! We adopted our greyhound Sophie over a year ago, and we have been in love with greyhounds and this organization ever since.
