Fostering Saves Lives

Posted on January 17, 2012

sweet_1087_5.jpgFoster homes are the limiting factor in American Greyhound's operations.  The number of active foster homes dictates the number of rescued hounds we have available for adoption at any given time.  American greyhound currently operates no kennel facilities and relies on foster homes to house our adoptable hounds.

And fostering hounds prior to adoption is an excellent way to know the personality of our hounds and allows us to place them in the most appropriate adoptive homes.

But to maintain a steady flow of dogs from the race tracks, even when adoption rates slow over the winter months, we must constantly locate new foster homes.

And what better way to make a difference in a racing greyhounds life than to give him or her a home, his or her first home, after a life at the racetrack.  You'll get the opportunity to see your new foster learn about life in a home.  See them struggle with stairs at first.  Bark at new sights, sounds and smells.  And I swear, it almost seems as though they understand what you are doing for them, as they seem to appreciate you more than any breed of dog I've ever owned.

Got your interest piqued? Maybe you are thinking about taking on a foster?  It couldn't be easier.  We supply you with a kennel for the hound, all the vet costs and support you in any way you need.  You supply a couple meals a day, a roof over their heads, and a generous supply of love and affection.  Seems like a pretty good deal to me!
