DOB: 7/29/05
likely cat/small animal tolerant
AG # 823

Are you looking for the Bess of the best? Then look no further than adorable Miss Bess! Bess is 10-year-old, well-behaved female who, due to changing family circumstances, found herself back up for adoption after spending seven (7) years in a home. She hasn’t let it, or being a little older, slow her down any at all. Bess serves as the welcoming committee at all of the meet and greet events she attends. In fact, she’s the first hound to say hello to the humans that stop by to pet her and she doesn’t hesitate to make new fur friends either. Bess has perfect house manners—she is good with children, small dogs and has even peacefully lived with a cat. Bess enjoys having her big ears rubbed and will burrow her head into your lap for a little extra attention whenever she can.   So if you want the Bess of the best, ask our Adoption Coordinator where to fall in love with Miss Bess!

Dakota – 1795 Adoption Pending

Dakota – 1795 Adoption Pending

Kennel Name: Dakota

Registered Name: Dakota Axis

Male

DOB: 6/21/08

AG # 1795

Likely cat/small animal tolerant

is a past TGIE graduate (4 years ago), who still will sit, shake and lay down for you, with or without a treat. He is super sweet and loves to snuggle and get all of the attention. Dakota’s foster mom calls him a big teddy bear as he loves to snuggle and loves to be around his “people.” He does great with the other dogs in the home and can adapt pretty quickly to any new environment. He loves being outside and going on walks at the local parks. He is great on the leash and would make a great condo/apartment dog also as he doesn’t make a peep! He loves having a fenced in yard in his foster home so he can play and trot in, but a fence is not needed for this sweetie! Dakota has previously lived in a home where they allowed him on the couch, so this is one thing he has been used to the past 4 years and will continue to possibly do in his new home. He loves roaching (laying on his back with feet up in the air) on the couch or on the area rug downstairs (he can do stairs easily). He has lived with cats and does fine with them. If this gentle giant sounds like a great fit for you, contact our adoption coordinator or come out to Petco and meet him for yourself! :)

Apollo – 1663 Adoption Pending

Apollo – 1663 Adoption Pending

Kennel Name: Apollo
Registered Name: Whynotdoughbelly
male
DOB: 2/4/12
small dog tolerant
AG # 1663

Apollo is a graduate of TGIE Prison Program and is very smart. He learned his basic commands so quickly, he had time to learn many extras, like play dead, bow, pray and others. Apollo is so smart, his foster family has to put an additional safeguard on the gate because he knows how to pop the latch and let himself and the others out. Apollo has lived in a home previously and had no issues with the small dog that lived there also, but he is not cat tolerant. Apollo LOVES the 7 year old boy that regularly visits his foster home and plays well with the other foster greys at his house. He is a master with steep slippery stairs that few other dogs are willing to attempt and has no issues with the slick, slippery floors at his foster home. Apollo is not afraid of much, including the storms that have raged through here recently. He kennels easily and quietly. Apollo would prefer to be in a home with other dogs, preferably greys, but other breeds not a deal breaker. If Apollo sounds like he may be a perfect fit for your family, please check which events he will be attending and stop out and meet this gorgeous brindle guy for yourself.

Chevy – 1500 Adoption Pending

Chevy – 1500 Adoption Pending

Kennel Name: Chevy
female
DOB: approx. 9/5/111
not likely cat/small animal tolerant
AG # 1500

Chevy came to American Greyhound in a round about way. She was a “forced owner surrender” by Animal Control in Illinois due to lack of proper care, tho at this point, she received a glowing vet report when she was spayed. Chevy can easily leap over 3 foot fences, so would need a 6 foot fence or to be leash walked. She has transitioned into her crazy foster home easily and loves all the attention her cuteness earns her. Chevy draws attention to herself everywhere we take her. She LOVES playing with the 7 year old boy that regularly visits her foster home and loves a good romp in the yard with her foster greyhound brothers. She attempts to get on the couch and beds, so we are assuming that was allowed in her home she was removed from, but we continue to work with her on that as that violates one of the 3 basics fostering rules of staying off the furniture. Chevy is a real sweetheart and will add spice and laughter to any home. And just in case a Ford lover is interested in her, you can call her Chevonne and she will make you just as happy :o)
