Sweetart is an adorable little lady who became an American Greyhound foster – in fact, the first foster in the Champaign- Urbana IL area – on March 17th. She was found as a stray in Decatur IL and had been given refuge and a wonderful opportunity to find a new loving home when she arrived at the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center in mid February. Surprisingly, she had not been adopted and American Greyhound was willing to help so the awesome staff there approved her transfer to us. She is quickly winning over the heart of her foster mom and is working hard to win the heart of the resident Grey too (see some of her pics!). In just a couple days, she has already settled in quite well and is starting to learn the ropes. She is a smart gal and will benefit from some obedience work as she overcomes the urge to put her cute little paws on desks and counters and such. She is an outgoing, sweet gal though and I swear she knows how to really look good for the camera! :-) She has accompanied her foster mom to work a couple times already and is adjusting well there too! She has been mingled with the other canines in her foster home; a 2 yr old Greyhound male, a blind and hard of hearing, 18-year old, Aussie/Blue Heeler gal, as well as a 13-year old small Terrier mix male. She has not met any children at this point but has been very cordial while meeting new adults. As always crosses the minds of most foster parents, her foster mom is wondering if she would make a wonderful new addition to the family, possibly – ah the joys of fostering! It has really been an awesome experience already to see how everyone is getting to know each other. We are being cautious with the resident kitty as Sweetart is pretty interested in him but they have met each other and will continue to do so in well-supervised visits. Contact us with any questions or if you think Sweetart would make a wonderful new addition to your family!

Mabel – 1572

Mabel – 1572
  • Kennel Name: Mabel
  • Registered Name: Thunderous Mabel
  • female
  • DOB: 5/4/10
  • likely cat/small animal tolerant
  • AG # 1572

Mabel is a recent graduate of the TGIE Prison program.  She will do any of her tricks for you and no treat is even necessary.  Mabel’s favorite command is the “shake” command and she will do it for you even when you don’t ask her to.  She is a bigger, stockier girl who’s tail never stops wagging, even when she is asleep we still hear thump, thump, thump as she is such a happy girl.  Mabel has corns on all four of her feet which cause her to be in pain at times and the vet has shown us a simple way to keep them in check and if you decide Mabel is the girl for you, we will be sure to pass that information onto you.  Although Mabel has a white face, she is only 3 years old and is very playful and fun; so don’t judge this book by it’s grey cover. She occasionally has space issues with the other dogs, so she may do best as an only dog or maybe with less than she has at her crazy foster home.  She has white “polka dots” running down her back
and legs too which only add to her charm.  If you are looking to add to your family fun, (now read this part with a jingle in mind) Maybe its Maybelline.

Chet – 965 Adoption Pending
  • Kennel Name: Chet
  • male
  • DOB: approx. 9/22/11
  • not likely cat/small animal tolerant
  • AG # 965

Chet is a greyhound mix we got from Ohio last fall.  He was adopted and returned due a change in the family dynamics.  ChetLOVES to sit and sometimes even sits on the front edge of his crate, which is hilarious. He is on the smaller side but I have always heard that great things come in small packages.  Chet loves to redecorate for you too and if he feels a rug would look better in a different room, he will take it there for you; he is very helpful in this way.   Chet gets along well with some of his other greyhound foster friends but is definitely not a leader and would do best with another dog at his forever home.  He is young and loves to romp and play with both his 2 leggers and 4 leggers; whoever has time to play with him.  Chet is adorable and you may just be the perfect and final forever home for him.

  • Kennel Name: Bugsy
  • Registered Name: Flying Bugs Bunny
  • male
  • DOB: 1/4/11
  • likely cat/small animal tolerant
  • AG # 1705

Bugsy is a great boy who graduated from The Greyhound Inmate Experience (TGIE) in May. He was spoken of quite highly by his trainers and he has been an awesome boy in his foster home! It was noted that he was very quick to learn many of his skills so that they even had time to teach him some extras like play dead and pray! He has been a well-mannered guy on leash for walks – and even walks well with two of his foster Grey siblings!! He has also been getting along just fine with a small terrier mix, a blind and deaf Aussie Blue Heeler mix and a cat too!! Bugsy is a generally laid back guy who has his moments of excitement – especially around meal times and when his foster family returns from after being gone. He has been happy to greet new people but hasn’t really had too much experience with kids at this point as there are none in his foster family. Bugsy also enjoys spending time out in the yard and soaking up some sun!

  • Kennel Name: Peanut
  • Registered Name: DKC Teddy Bear
  • female
  • DOB: 3/20/12
  • not likely cat/small animal tolerant

Peanut’s favorite time is play time! She loves to play with other dogs, humans, or just by herself.  She throws her toys in the air and prances around chasing them in the yard. Peanut also enjoys walks and has shown that she is very smart with her obedience training.  Don’t let her playfulness fool you; she loves to lounge and sleep the day away too!  If you want a sweet little friend to keep you company and stay loyally by your side, Peanut is the girl for you.  Peanut does well with stairs and lives happily with a greyhound and a toddler. She would do best in a house without cats or small dogs. Peanut has an old injury to her back left leg that did not heal properly.  As a result, she has severe arthritis in that leg.  We have worked with our trusted vetrinarians and have developed a management plan for Peanut’s condition.  This isn’t something that should shy you away from this sweet girl.  Peanut is looking for her forever home, could it be yours?
