Hello Greyhound friends!

Sorry it took us so long to write and send in a picture...the summer has been so busy here!

Well, Pickles has settled into her new home.  She seems to be very happy and content.

She and her new sister Flyzie (our Border Collie Mix) get along great!  The girls share toys and have made up a friendly game of chase in the yard.  Pickles (who we named Luna, but we call her Lunapickles because she still answers to her racing name) is doing just fantastic.  There has not been one accident, or chewed shoe or anything out of the ordinary.  She is well mannered and listens.  I think she learns by a lot by watching her new sister, Fly.

She still is quite skinny, but looks to have put on a pound or two.  Just the last three ribs are showing now.  (not all 5 anymore)  She eats very well and loves doggie treats.  She is beginning to howl with us as a pack and sings with Fly.  She also loves to go for rides to pick up kids from work.  She and Fly share the back seat of our van.

We found that Lunapickles loves doggie toys that squeek.  She throws them up in the air and catches them.  It's really quite entertaining to watch. She loves to pick every toy out of the dog toy bin and lays down right in the middle of the pile.  She plays with each one of them and then falls asleep with toy beavers, squirrels, moose and goose all around.  She is definitely a bit spoiled with all the attention in our busy household.  Someone is always playing with the dogs.

She greets us every morning (or when someone returns home from work) with a smile.  She turns her lip up, clacks her teeth, and actually smiles!  If you didn't know her, you would think she was showing her teeth and ready to bite...but she gives kisses instead.  We just love this!  She looks like she's doing an old Jerry Lewis imitation!!!

Anyway, she seems very happy to be retired.

Also, please pass this letter on to other's in the group.  We thank you all for your help and answering our questions about caring for Pickles!

Hope to see you all soon at an event!

My husband and I want to sincerely thank the kind members of American Greyhound.  Not being able to have children would often make us wonder what our purpose in life was. After adopting Buffy and Josie, things began to change for the better. The group asked us if we,d like to be foster parents and we gladly took them up on the offer!!!!  There will be no more sad Mother's Day or Father's Day. We have 5 Christmas stockings to stuff now. We no longer doubt our existence by not having biological children. The children we do have just happen to have four paws and a tail.   Thanks again guys for giving us this opportunity to completely enjoy life again.    Sincerly,Buffy and Josie's Momma and Daddy.

Hello,

We just wanted to thank you again for giving us the opportunity to adopt Popcorn (now Heidi) into our home. She has been a perfect fit, and seeing her when one of us arrives home is truly a highlight to our day. She is very well-behaved and affectionate, and she really seems comfortable now in her new home. Once again, we want to thank you for all your help in acquiring our newest family member.

Sincerely,
Brandon and Rachel

Hi Barb! This is Stoney's mom, Shelly.  I hope things are well there.  Things are going great here.

Stoney has been a true blessing for us and he really loves his new home.  We lost our girl Dusty who was 16.  The vet said she had a heart failure.  It was really a hard time for us but Stoney and Moosey really helped us through it.  Stoney and Moose are inseperable they are best friends.  We have about six dog beds throughout the house but often Moose will just get as close to Stoney as he possible can.. and to see two huge dogs on one dog bed is hysterical.  Stoney has had so far two trips to the dunes and LOVES it.  He loves the trails and loves going up to the lake front.  Scott's parents own a large amount of acreage and they have a 4 acre man-made pond on their land and we walk out there daily.  A couple of days ago Scott's mom's girl (6 month old lab) came out with the boys to the pond to show off her swimming skills and it drove the boys wild.  Stoney went in to the shallow end and spent some time sitting in the sand in the water.  Moose kept with his 'i don't do water' and just watched from the sidelines.  (i've attached a pic of that for you too).  Stoney had only three potty accidents in the house right when he was first transitioning his way into his new home.  He know plays with toys all the time, loves beef bones to chew on, and is VERY fond of avocado!  he is such a lover i can't even tell you.. and so gentle!  everyone who meets him falls in love with him.  the other day we were walking down the road and a truck pulled past us, then backed up in the middle of the road.  he asked me where stoney came from and i told him american greyhound -- and he said.. 'i knew it.  that is a good looking guy, we saw him at the porter county fair'.  so he gets all kinds of attention no matter where he goes.. even if it is just down the road out here in the middle of nowhere.    i hope you guys are having great success with placing these amazing boys and girls.  i am just in utter amazement how this loving boy who never had a normal life has just come in and is the most well behaved, gentle and loving boy we could have ever hoped for.  THANK U! THANK U! THANK U!!!

Hi Karen & Dave,

I am the person who adopted Trellis. I just wanted to give you an update. Everything is going really good. She is really coming out of herself. She is playing more and eating very good. We are just so glad we adopted her! She is a great dog! I never would have gotten a puppy ever before. I just would have adopted greyhounds a long time ago if I would have known they were so mild tempered. She pretty much goes everywhere with us, if not we put her in her big crate and she goes in really good. We really enjoy her!

Thanks for everything,

Lori
