Someone You Should Know

Jennifer Kuzdas

My name is Jennifer Kuzdas.  My husband, Larry, went to the University of Indianapolis where he learned about the plight of the greyhound.  When we met, he wanted a Greyhound and I wanted a Golden Retriever.  So we ended up with a fawn greyhound to start.  For the first few years, we weren’t active.  In early 2002, there was a meeting for people who wanted to volunteer.  I REALLY wanted to do something with the newsletter since I have a Marketing and Graphic Design background.  I got the job.  Later that Fall, they held elections and I joined the Board of Directors.  I mainly help out with all the communication efforts, including the quarterly newsletter.

I have a full house at home including 3 cats, 2 greyhounds, 1 husband and a partridge in a pear tree…ok, there’s no pear tree…or partridge.  My greys are Boots Bee and Jazzy.  If you’ve ever seen the newsletter, you’ve seen my girls.  We adopted Boots Bee right after we got married in October 1999.  We literally fell in love with her as Nancy and Jim were walking her into PetSmart.  I met Jazzy at PetSmart when our organization first got her.  I had my camera handy, as usual, and snapped a bunch of photos of her to show everyone at work and my husband.  He thought she was beautiful too. We adopted Jasmine in September 2002 after her last surgery.  We figured Boots needed a companion.  It didn’t quite work out that way.  Jazzy spends more of her time playing with Cosby, my BIG orange Tabby cat than Boots Bee.  But, Boots Bee doesn’t mind.  It simply gives Boots more couch time.

Overall, I’m glad to be part of such a wonderful extended family.  The people who adopt greyhounds have an enormous amount of love and compassion.  This group does a lot of good in helping adopt these wonderful companions.  Plus, I’ve never met a nicer group of people.  I encourage anyone who would like to help, to do so.  There are so many different ways to help.  Volunteering time, talent and funds are the main three.  Since I write and design the newsletter, I would like to throw out a shameless plug:  PLEASE send me stories, photos, dog-related recipes, or whatever greyhound related item you’d like to see in the newsletter.  We have an extended family of over 200 people.  That’s a lot of people to see your grey grace the cover of the next American Greyhound/Great Lakes newsletter.

Thanks, Jennifer Kuzdas  = )
