My name is Jeff Coggins and I am the President of American Greyhound.  I’m glad you stopped by our site and have taken a look around.  We really want to make a difference as an organization, and since you are here, I’m going to assume you want to make a difference too.

Our organization strives to make life better for greyhounds, no matter their point of origin-racetrack, shelter, humane society, breeding farm, owner surrender-you name it.  And, when we say greyhound, we mean just about any sighthound or sighthound mix-Afghan, Borzoi, Irish Wolfhound, Scottish deerhound, Saluki, Whippet, and of course, Greyhounds.  When we take the dogs into our care, our first order of business is to assure that all the dog’s veterinary needs are met, no matter what they may be.  Those needs are determined not by “bean-counters” looking at our bottom line, but by our Veterinary Committee, who all have “Dr.” in front of their names.  And, we have that luxury because of our wonderful supporters and volunteers who have made sure our operations were fully funded.

We have impacted well over 1350 dogs over the past 10+ years.  But, to continue to make that difference, we need your help;

Volunteering–We can never have too many volunteers.  From hauling dogs in our state-of-the-art equipment, to fundraising, to fostering dogs in your home, your time and efforts can make a huge difference to a greyhound in need of our help.  And, as we move forward with our plans to build a shelter, your volunteer efforts become even more important than ever, as maintaining the building and caring for the dogs housed there will add extra load to our existing volunteer base.

Fostering–did I mention fostering?  There is absolutely nothing you can do that will make a greater difference for our pups than fostering.

Financial Support–When it comes right down to it, all the good intentions in the world won’t accomplish a thing without financial support to meet our goals.  Each and every dog that is adopted through American Greyhound costs us over $500 in addition to the adoption fees.  Your tax-deductible support helps us to continue to cover those “extra” costs.

I know that you want to be a part of something successful and make a difference in the lives of some wonderful animals.  Together, we can make a difference!  So, please, join with us in making that difference.  If you have questions, you can contact me at (219)771-0892.  I look forward to speaking with you about how, together, we can make life better for greyhounds!
